At a casting in an artist’s studio, young and impulsive Julia meets painter Ms. Freytag, who, to mark the peak of her career, wants to create an abstract portrait for eternity using Julia’s blood. Soon Julia realizes that she has fallen into the hands of an uncompromising narcissist who will not stop taking her blood until the last drop adorns the red painting.

“What is art allowed to do? This question has accompanied me for quite some time. Since I myself have taken the career path of director and author, it is also a question that concerns me. Especially abstract works and the motivation behind them have always fascinated me. The more I dealt with the topics of art and actionism in recent years, the clearer the motives became. OEL AUF LEINWAND takes up the theme of Actionism and addresses the philosophical questions raised. Ernst Fischer’s quote, ‘Art needn’t do anything. Art is allowed everything’, is the basis of the film and is put to the test by Julia’s and Ms. Freytag’s actions and decisions.”
