Friedrich Baur Gold Award

"Dr. h.c. Friedrich Baur loved music, art and sports. Together with his wife Kathi Baur, he was tirelessly committed to social and charitable work."

Since 2018, the FRIEDRICH BAUR GOLD AWARD (formerly HOFER GOLDPREIS) has been awarded by the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in memoriam Heinz Badewitz as part of the Hof International Film Festival. With a certified gold bar worth around 35,000 euros, this is the most highly endowed prize for young directors in Germany.

Competition

The competition for the FRIEDRICH-BAUR-GOLDPREIS is automatically open to all directors whose feature film premieres at the Hof Film Festival, provided it is their first feature film of German production.

In the case of the FRIEDRICH-BAUR-GOLDPREIS, the Department of Film and Media Art of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts elects an annually changing mentor who decides on the awarding of the prize. Included is artistic advice for the development of a new film project for over a year.

Friedrich Baur Foundation

The Friedrich Baur Foundation was founded in 1953 by Dr. h.c. Friedrich Baur and is committed to art and culture in addition to medical research and treatment. The foundation fulfils its charitable purposes through its two beneficiaries, the Faculty of Medicine of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.

Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts

The Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts is an association of well-known personalities from artistic life and was founded in 1948 by the Free State of Bavaria as the "supreme nursery of art". The Academy awards the Friedrich Baur Prizes, which are financed by the Friedrich Baur Foundation.
