HoF Festival Rendezvous – ZWISCHEN SOMMER UND HERBST

Film Festival Rendezvous at Hof Drive-In-Cinema and at Central Cinema

What could be better than spending snug summer nights with good friends and a good movie? This has been possible at the Hof drive-in cinema since the beginning of June and is now being accompanied by the typical Hof Film Festival atmosphere. With the friendly assistance of the Hermann and Bertl Müller foundation, we’re showing movie highlights from previous festival years in the frameworks of the HoF Rendezvous. Things will get started on Saturday, July 25, with GOOD GIRL GONE BAD in the presence of director Petra Lüschow and actor Florian Stetter. On Friday, July 31, ZWISCHEN SOMMER UND HERBST will be next on the big 14x6m-screen of the drive-in cinema in the presence of director Daniel Manns. On Sunday, August 9, Taika Waititi’s OSCAR® awarded JOJO RABBIT will be shown at Central Cinema in Hof Cine Center.

In her first motion picture GOOD GIRL GONE BAD (world premiere HoF 2018), director Petra Lüschow, with a great portion of tongue in cheek, abducts us into the world of the 80’s peace movement. 17 year-old Ursula Mayer lives in the German province that is increasingly influenced by the ideals of the 1968 APO movement. When, one day, a handsome new teacher comes into town, he doesn’t only turn Ursula’s world upside down.

In ZWISCHEN SOMMER UND HERBST (world premiere HoF 2017), director Daniel Mann paints an affable and realistic picture of the challenges that teenagers are facing. In the center of the diegesis is 17 year-old Lena. She’s just finished school and has her head full of plans. When she meets her brother’s new girlfriend at the family fridge one night, an unfamiliar intimacy between the two girls starts to arise that severely shakes up Lena’s life.

The third Rendezvous motion picture is Taika Waititi’s multiple award-winning JOJO RABBIT (among others, the film won the OSCAR® for best adapted screenplay). The satire about World War II escorts the lonely Hitler Youth boy Jojo, whose view of the world is turned upside down when he discovers that his single mom hides a Jewish girl in their attic. With the only assistance of his idiotic, imaginary friend Adolf Hitler, Jojo has to face up to his blind nationalism.

“The cinema is an awesome place that needs our support today more than ever. I’m very pleased that, thanks to the Hermann and Bertl Müller foundation, we can show three outstanding festival movies at the drive-in and the Central cinema. Thus, we can make a small contribution to the overall focus of cinema, diversity and the making of movies. I’d like to say thank you to everyone involved in making these Rendezvous possible. It’s just another proof that Hof is the true Home of Films throughout the year.” Thorsten Schaumann, Artistic Director Hof International Film Festival
