Director Benjamin Rost (center) and producer Mark Szilagyi present A PORTRAIT ON THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS.

It is a never-ending search that’s described by Benjamin Rost's documentary A PORTRAIT ON THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS (Hof International Film Festival 2020), to be shown on SWR at 11:15 pm on Thursday, 14 October 2021. It will then be available in the » ARD Mediathek until 13 November 2021:

In a poetic way, the film shows three men illegally searching a diamond field for the precious stones that will change their lives forever. A section of South African life unfolds through their hunt for a great fortune. The rubble field where this all takes place lies on the edge of the desert, just where it borders the ocean. It has been torn up like a field by the many excavators and machines digging the ground here for European companies for decades. Underneath, deep underground, the remains of the purest diamonds in the world can still be found.

Diamond fever in the South African desert. Three people in search of their fortune. Benjamin Rost finds intense images of a hopeless dream that simply won't let go.
