On December 21, 2024, the shortest day of the year and shortly before Christmas, the Short Film Day will also take place again in Hof. At the same time, the city of Hof will award the Audience Short Film Award 2024.

The Short Film Day in France was launched in 2011 as "Le jour le plus court". Since 2012, it has been held in Germany and coordinated by the AG Kurzfilm as the Federal Association of German Short Film. In the meantime, more than 20 participating countries have taken part, making this day an international celebration of short film. The motto of the 13th Short Film Festival is "Forming Gangs": In a society in which division and intolerance are increasing, we need cohesion and mutual support to counterbalance the situation.

The event takes place in cooperation with Freunde der Internationale Hofer Filmtage and Central Kino Hof.

Short Film Screening "Young Filmmakers"

Andreas Fickenscher from Kopf Hof e.V. organizes the screening "Young Filmmakers" at 8:00 p.m. at the Scala Cinema Hof. Seven short films from 58 years of the Hof Film Festival will be shown, some of them with original 35mm film prints. Among them is the curious contemporary document HEINZ BADEWITZ - BILDFÜLLD from 1970, FOTOFINISH by Sönke Wortmann from 1986 and HAUPTSACHE LEHMANN from 2004 by director and Film Festival employee Birgit Lehmann.

Kopf Hof e.V. has been participating since the introduction of the Short Film Day in Germany in 2012 with a self-curated short film programme. For 19 years, the association has been bringing the annually newly assembled short film reel "Augenblicke" to the Scala Film Theatre and organises the short film open-air "Uferflimmern" every summer, in which short films from the entire film history are selected for a specific focus and some are still shown with transportable 35mm projectors.
