Miracles in cinema with THE MAN FROM ROME

    DER MANN AUS ROM

Miracles in cinema come with THE MAN FROM ROME (58th Hof International Film Festival 2024 / HoF IFF), directed by Jaap van Heusden and starring Emma Bading in her first international lead role. The film premieres in German cinemas on Thursday, 12 December 2024.

A grand premiere is scheduled for Saturday, 14 December 2024, at Klick Kino in Berlin. There, THE MAN FROM ROME will be screened alongside Emma Bading’s opening short film of this year’s HoF IFF, DOMESTICATED, as well as TABU LA RASA (56th HoF IFF 2022). The actress and director will personally present all films. She is also the “Klick Kino Film Patron of the Month”!

The skeptical priest Filippo (Michele Riondino) is sent by the Vatican to investigate an alleged miracle. A viral video shows a statue of the Virgin Mary shedding tears. Filippo travels to the small Dutch "miracle community," where he encounters the young Térèse (Emma Bading) and her manipulative mother (Daniela Holtz), and reaches the limits of his rational approach.

“The film’s true miracle lies in how it conveys its religious theme as a universal deficit – with an existential impact that unfolds like a Greek tragedy.”
