Since the end of August, the new novel by filmmaker and author Chris Kraus, DIE SONNE UND DIE MOND (translated: THE SUN AND THE MOON/Diogones), has been available in bookstores. Kraus began his film career with FOUR MINUTES at the 40th Hof International Film Festival (HIFF) in 2006. Most recently, his film 15 YEARS celebrated its world premiere as the opening film of the 57th HIFF in 2023. Now, the internationally acclaimed author is on tour with his latest novel – including reunions with Hannah Herzsprung and Karoline Schuch.
Once inseparable, Sonja – known as “Sun” – was bitterly betrayed by her friend Jana von Mond (Moon). Years later, the now-famous comedian shows up at Sun’s funeral home. As they prepare a memorial service together, old wounds resurface – yet Sun and Moon continue to orbit one another, sometimes warm, sometimes cold.
DIE SONNE UND DIE MOND is a novel about endings, brimming with new beginnings: humorous, vibrant, and full of surprises. A must-read.
