What defines a Schlager? Documentary filmmaker Martin Witz delves into the mystery of popular music by telling the story of the nearly forgotten hit duo Bruno Balz and Michael Jary. Loved and persecuted during the Third Reich, they paradoxically provided the songs for the Nazis' "dream factory." Their music became the soundtrack to the post-war economic miracle of Germany.
