Following its world premiere at the 59th Hof International Film Festival, ÜBER UNTERBIBERGER, directed by Matthias Ditscherlein, will be released in cinemas across Germany on October 1. Distributed by Filmperlen, the musical documentary follows the renowned Himpsl family of musicians and their band, Unterbiberger Hofmusik, who have been combining traditional Bavarian folk music with jazz as well as Oriental and global rhythms for many years.
Unterbiberger Hofmusik is considered a pioneer of Alpine world music. Their unique musical universe brings traditional Bavarian sounds together with influences from around the world. Over the course of several years, director Matthias Ditscherlein accompanied the family and their ensemble at concerts and performances as well as on journeys, including trips to Morocco and the Bavarian Forest. The result is an intimate portrait of a family of musicians whose musical curiosity knows no boundaries.
ÜBER UNTERBIBERGER celebrated its world premiere at last year’s 59th Hof International Film Festival, where it also opened the festival. The film now continues its journey through German cinemas.
The theatrical release will be accompanied by a cinema tour featuring a special live programme. The film’s protagonists, the Himpsl family of musicians and their Unterbiberger Hofmusik ensemble, will be appearing in person at selected cinemas. Full tour dates can be found here.
