As Richard’s dream of owning his own funeral home is dashed, he has to continue delivering food for Lois. The unemployed Severin is allowed to run a social project against Richard’s will. But, hopelessly overwhelmed, he seeks help from Richard. Meanwhile, a water crisis threatens the health of the village of Forsius, and Richard senses a chance to make it as a mortician.
“The film is about two friends who are trying to solve a water crisis in their town. The idea for this film project resulted from the fact that, for a while, we were not supposed to drink the water in our village because of germ infestation. From this source of inspiration, a total of nine versions emerged until the script was finalized. Since many of the participants worked full-time in a 40-hour job, we were only able to complete the story after a total of seven years of development. As already mentioned, a great source of inspiration and ideas for the plot was the element of water. In my opinion, this element is taken too much for granted in our society, and people can become unpleasant when something that is already taken for granted suddenly loses this self-evidence.
The theme of unemployment and burnout has also found an important place in the plot. HALBMÄNNERWELT is an independent comedy that exposes the problems of everyday life with a twinkle in the eye. The film reflects how we deal with seemingly basic rights and resources that have become self-evident.”
