New Short Film Awards at the 55th Hof International Film Festival

Preparations for the 55th Hof International Film Festival are in full swing. Every day we receive a great quantity of new film submissions from Germany and abroad. Filmmakers and productions can still submit their films to us until August 30, 2021.

We are very pleased to inform you about two new prizes that will be awarded at the Hof International Film Festival starting this year. In addition to the well-known "German Talent New Cinema Award", "Granit – Hof Documentary Film Award", "Hans-Vogt-Award", "Bild Kunst Award" and the "Hof Gold Prize of the Friedrich-Baur-Foundation", the city of Hof, already benefactor of the "Award of the City of Hof", which has been awarded annually since 1986, has decided without further ado to offer two additional prizes:

the Jury Short Film Award of the City of Hof and the Audience Short Film Award of the City of Hof.

The jury award is determined by a jury consisting of three members for short films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For the audience award, on the other hand, visitors can vote for all short films in the cinema as well as digitally at our streaming festival. The awards are each endowed with Euro 2.500,-.

"The Cinema and 55 years ago also the Hof International Film Festival began with short films. Often the short film is the first signature of cinematic talent. To be able to honor this in a double way, especially this anniversary year of the Home of Films with audience and jury, are great prospects for our filmmakers. We thank the city of Hof very much for this initiative."

    Thorsten Schaumann
Artistic Director of the Hof International Film Festival

Until August 30, 2021, films can still be submitted at

The Hof International Film Festival, founded in 1967, is one of the most important film festivals in Germany. Filmmakers such as Maren Ade, Tom Tykwer, Caroline Link, Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmusch, Werner Herzog and Peter Jackson, to mention but a few, had their premieres in Hof as the kick-off platform for an international career. Thus, the Hof International Film Festival is considered the festival for new discoveries.

This year the Hof International Film Festival celebrate its 55th anniversary. It will take place in the city of Hof from October 26 to 31, 2021. Films will be shown in cinemas according to the current hygiene requirements and with plus7streamdays we offer the audience the opportunity to see the films digitally as a transactional video on demand at the streaming festival from the German premiere until November 07, 2021.
