Twin brothers Tristan and Lazaro are best friends and are both training for the admissions test to the Astronaut Academy for a military program for the colonization of space.
One night, during a training session, Tristan is contaminated with a mysterious toxic liquid. This affects his body and psyche: he becomes tremendously huge and physically strong, but very weak mentally. The accident destroys the bonds between the brothers, and each twin must fight on alone. Lazaro has to learn to forget the old image of his brother and love him as he is now, although the world has no place for monsters like Tristan...

“Here you see the complexity of human relationships in a highly competitive and fast-paced society. This is a world where there is no place for people on the margins of society. A society where our instincts drive us to forcibly separate ourselves from others and where being disabled or different in the broadest sense triggers a collective process of banishment.
But I move on the cusp of the science fiction genre because I would like to work on the ‘mythology’ of the film, because I try to make the film as reflexive as possible, to involve the viewer as much as possible. And because both literature and hybrid films that are unclassifiable have influenced my tastes. TROPIC is influenced by everything I like about Cronenberg and Verhoeven, by the dystrophic comic universe of Charles Burns, the mangas of Taiyô Matsumoto, or even the literature of Magical Realism.”
