“We were interested in what might await us if we woke up in some distant future. How would we feel in a world a thousand years from now, perhaps disconnected from our human roots? What if our tools of self-identification have slipped away? If our self-perception, which defines us as individuals, is disrupted or taken out of our hands completely? Perhaps we will no longer understand a future species at all, and conversely, we might be read by it like an old ‘disc’ – and found extremely boring.
We are interested in tension between the primal human desire to overcome death and the primal fear that we might succeed.”
