The Silent Trilogy consists of three short films: Romu-Mattila and a Beautiful Woman (2012), The Moonshiners (2017), and A Planet Far Away (2023). Portraying various characters, from doomed outcasts to moonshiners and a pig, the film is a tribute to silent cinema, its playfulness and vivid experience. The whole film is about the end of everything and the extraordinary attempts to survive that.

“I began the silent film trilogy in the early 2010s, during my early days as a director, when I met Heikki Kossi who had recently moved to Kokkola. I wanted to create a cinematic performance where all sounds are generated live while the film is projected onto the screen, allowing light and shadow to interplay. I’m into soundscapes and ambient sounds, and creating them reminds me of magic. It’s fascinating to see how different objects produce mechanical sounds which, when combined with the visuals, form entirely new meanings. I thought that this kind of cinematic performance captures the magic and playfulness that film screenings had in the early days of cinema.”
