“The tragedy of privilege is discouragement. SOBRIEDAD ME ESTÁS MATANDO is a dark comedy that delves into the paradox of our era's unprecedented comfort, alongside the pervasive feelings of emptiness and anxiety, often fueled by the fear of an ordinary life. Our protagonist’s journey of self-reinvention confronts his inner demons, posing the existential question most people in early middle age face: ‘Is it too late to achieve my dreams?’ This story aims to be a refuge for all misfits struggling to find their place in the world.
The urgency to tell this story was born when my two best friends and I grew frustrated by the lack of local films that reflect the pressure that our generation faces from the need to live extraordinary lives. To fill this gap, we wrote a semi-autobiographical dark comedy based on our collective obsessions and addictions. Through the character of Raffi, we explore questions such as: ‘Have we done enough? Will we be good fathers? Are we truly happy?’”
