50 Years of Casablanca Kino Nuremberg: Happy Birthday!

Half a century of cinema in Nuremberg’s Südstadt district: Casablanca Kino is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026 – and we send our heartfelt congratulations.

Since 1976, Casablanca has stood for committed, independent cinema and programming with a clear point of view. Since its reopening in 2009, it has proudly carried the name “Kino mit Courage” and has been run by a non-profit association. For decades, many wonderful people have made exceptional cinema possible here with passion and dedication.

Casablanca and the International Hof Film Festival share a close and long-standing friendship. The Casa team is a festival regular, while many HoF films find their way to Nuremberg. Our Artistic Director is a frequent guest of the Casablanca to host Q&As and continue the conversation with audiences.

The anniversary will be celebrated in style: the highlight is the street festival at Kopernikusplatz on Saturday, September 19, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with live music, food and drinks, a raffle, activities for children, screen printing, information stands and plenty of opportunities to meet and connect around cinema. At 6:00 PM, everyone is invited to raise a glass to 50 years of Casablanca.

On Sunday, September 20, Michelangelo Antonioni’s THE PASSENGER returns to the screen – the very first film shown at Casablanca in 1976.
