I WAS A WITNESS in cinemas, tour & talk

The documentary I WAS A WITNESS (directedy by Monika Agler, Andreas Reiner, Günter Moritz/distribution Der Filmverleih) , which was widely discussed at the 59th Hof International Film Festival 2025 (HIFF) and has been in German cinemas and on tour since Thursday, March 26, 2026, will be screened on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 6:30 PM at Monopol Kino Munich (tickets here). 

The filmmakers Andreas Reiner and Günter Moritz, along with former Jehovah’s Witnesses Daniela and Lydia, look forward to a discussion with the audience following the screening. The event will be moderated by Thorsten Schaumann, Artistic Director of the HIFF. 

What begins as a quiet photography project evolves into an intense journey into the hidden structures of an isolated religious community. In powerful, intimate conversations with photographer Andreas Reiner, former members of Jehovah’s Witnesses describe their path from a life shaped by control, psychological pressure, and violence toward a courageous new beginning.
