ÜBER UNTERBIBERGER at the Rentei in Stockheim

    Über Unterbiberger - Still 8

The opening film of the 59th Hof International Film Festival 2026 (HIFF), ÜBER UNTERBIBERGER by Matthias Dietscherlein, will be screened as part of the first HoF Filmtage Rendezvous series at the Rentei in Stockheim on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 6:00 pm. After the screening, filmmaker Dietscherlein and Franz Himpsl, founder of the featured band Unterbiberger Hofmusik, look forward to a Q&A with the audience, moderated by Thorsten Schaumann, artistic director of the IHF.

Franz Himpsl—athlete, teacher, trumpeter, free spirit, and founder of Unterbiberger Hofmusik—and his familiy take audiences on an exhilarating musical journey around the world, where Bavarian folk music unexpectedly and beautifully merges with jazz and global influences.

A film full of energy and emotion that transcends borders and connects people, cultures, and hearts.

The HoF Filmtage Rendezvous series presents films from past festival editions in the presence of the filmmakers, followed by audience discussions moderated by the festival’s artistic director Thorsten Schaumann. Screenings take place at venues including Central Kino Hof, KoKi Hannover, Capitol Kino Plauen, and now for the first time at the Rentei in Stockheim. Through this series, the festival continues to support selected films throughout the year, helping them reach audiences beyond the festival and ensuring a more sustainable distribution.

After more than 500 years of coal mining in Stockheim, the heritage-listed Rentei building of the former “St. Katharina” mine was extensively restored and reopened in 2024 as a cultural and community center, keeping the region’s mining heritage alive.
