Charlie Schwarzer’s great career as a stand-up comedian just doesn’t seem to take off as planned. His forgetfulness is diagnosed as dementia, and before he can talk to his beloved wife about it, she walks out on him. Charlie reflects on his failures and tries to rediscover humor, in the course of which he becomes involved in a bizarre art theft.
“Emilie and Charlie are lovers who have never really succeeded at anything. Transforming their worries into their personal happiness is the longing that unites them. Driven by turmoil, they love each other, but are frozen on the inside. Emilie is the victim of a road accident and loses her body, while Charlie, suffering from dementia, loses his mind. We stand witness to two lost souls in search of the truth. Both have to somehow live with their failures, and Charlie sets off on an odyssey to get back up on stage and prove to the whole world out there that there is more than their simple ‘amusement’. STAND-UP! is a film about the beauty of failure and transience. A praise of indifference.”
