“BECOMING VERA is deeply personal to me as both a foster parent and filmmaker. The decision to tell the story of foster children stems from my belief in storytelling’s power to evoke empathy and change. Foster children live in a world largely unseen by society, marked by instability and a universal longing for belonging. My goal is to portray their experiences with honesty and sensitivity. Growing up near a Catholic orphanage in Alicante, I witnessed the struggles of foster children firsthand. Spending time with them as a child, and later losing my mother, made their resilience and struggles even more personal to me. BECOMING VERA is my attempt to capture their dreams, disappointments, and aspirations.”
