“I believe this is where my fears and obsessions come into play. I worked for 11 years as a senior telecommunications engineer in various companies. When I finally left to focus on the world of film, an American company I had worked for summoned its Southern European directors into the Madrid office. Three senior directors were dismissed without notice for embezzlement. That made a strong impression on me.
I think that having a senior executive as the protagonist of this story makes it much more interesting. The fast role change makes it clear to the audience that what happened to Daniel could happen to anyone, making the situation more relatable. Why does someone like Daniel, after committing embezzlement, decide to give up his life to protect his family and subject himself to the cold and harsh reality of life on the street? This isn’t a story of explanations, but rather a story of silence.”
