Terrified, Eva flees, and no one learns the details of the accident, not even Bruno, a 45-year-old French man who is the victim’s husband. The body plays a prominent role in the visual and narrative world of my film, as it has always been a crucial element in my personal artistic research as a director. This relation with the body and with a sexuality experienced in its conflictual and violent form brought me to investigate the cultural roots associated with the female body. That’s why I turned to the study of Genesis and the character of Eve, who later became my protagonist.

In L'ORIGINE DEL MONDO, I attempt to depict the consequences of original sin on the female gender and, especially, on the disharmonious relationship between man and woman. In my movie, women's bodies are on the one hand humiliated and raped, and on the other hand they seem to be destined for freedom and pleasure. Male and female, however, find themselves stuck in a hellish circle with no way out, where the lack of communication reigns and the pursuit of a profound connection never manages to find its fulfillment. Eve and Bruno's bodies scan each other, brush against each other, touch each other, merge and separate in a whirlwind of attraction and repulsion that will try, through love, to find forgiveness and resolution.
