On Wednesday, 9 March 2022 at 6:30 pm the Monopol cinema in Munich (tickets here) will present last year's GRANIT Hof Documentary Award-winning film LUCHADORAS by Paola Calvo and Patrick Jasim and on Saturday, 12 March 2022 the Casablanca in Nuremberg will screen the film at 6:00 pm (tickets here). At both screenings there will be an audience discussion with the filmmakers and the artistic director of the Hof International Film Festival Thorsten Schaumann.
The documentary films portrays the courageous women who enter the ring as wrestlers in Ciudad Juárez, the city of female murders, and who fight there, as well as in their everyday lives marked by machismo, for interpretive authority over the image of women in Mexico: Mini Serinita, of small stature, whose greatest dream is to become a full-time luchadora in the big arena in Mexico City and leave behind the factory work that disenfranchises so many women. Lady Candy, who can see the U.S. border her daughters were taken across against their will from her home, but can't cross because of visa regulations. And Baby Star, the recently divorced single mother who was a Lucha Libre star in her younger years and is now on her way to a comeback.
