On Sunday, 13 March 2022, a HoF Benefit Rendezvous screening for Ukraine Aid will take place at 7:00 pm. The Hof International Film Festival, together with the Central Kino Hof, will show Florian Hoffmann's WHISPERS OF WAR. The admission fee, including a free drink, of € 10 will be donated completely to "Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft" and "Aktion Deutschland Hilft".
When Khalil, an elementary school teacher in Berlin, receives war footage from his Kurdish homeland and thinks he recognizes his sister in the pixilated videos, his life is thrown off course. He tries at all costs to bring his sister to safety and to inform the public about the brutal war. When his existence in Berlin is on the brink, Khalil is forced to ask himself where he belongs.
WHISPERS OF WAR, awarded the Audience Award at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2021, the Fischer Audience Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2021 and the European Work in Progress Zoom Medienfabrik Award 2020, is Florian Hoffmann's first feature-length film, which celebrated its world premiere at the 55th Hof International Film Festival.
Florian Hoffmann has "succeeded in making a film that is at once emotionally gripping and clever, and which impressed the jury with its narrative power and stylistic sovereignty." (Deutsche Film- und Medienbewertung/FBW). After the film, the artistic director of the Hof International Film Festival, Thorsten Schaumann, will lead an audience discussion with the director, who will be virtually connected.
Thanks go to the whole Central Kino Hof team as well as Chromosom Filmproduktion for making the film available.
