Rest in Peace, David Lynch

    David Lynch

With David Lynch, one of the great visionaries of cinema has passed away on 15 January 2025. He was an absolute discovery already in 1978 at the 12th Hof International Film Festival (HoF IFF). It was during this event that David Lynch's first feature film ERASERHEAD had its German premiere. The catalog text from 1978 for Eraserhead is timeless and reads like an obituary from today:

"…the new cult film of the midnight crowd. Synopsis: A dream of dark and disturbing things."

David K. Lynch (here still with a 'K'!)

This first feature film by the young American director David Lynch defies any interpretation or categorization. ERASERHEAD explores the dark realms where the mind struggles with matter, where the subconscious becomes visible, where a human environment faces the deepest human emotions. David Lynch combines elements of science fiction and nightmare into a confusing film of extreme fascination. ERASERHEAD will make David Lynch known as a masterful technician and fantasist.

In 1980, THE ELEPHANT MAN was given a special screening at the 14th HoF IFF. His award-winning work BLUE VELVET celebrated its much-discussed German premiere at the 20th Hof International Film Festival in 1986 and became a cult classic.

David K. Lynch, Rest in Peace.
