Pop-up cinemas at the Hof International Film Festival

The 59th Hof International Film Festival will set an example for change in 2025: After the Scala Kino Center was no longer available as a venue at short notice, we succeeded in finding new and unusual venues together with many committed makers from the city of Hof. In addition to the large Central Cinema, this year's Film Festival will take place in special pop-up cinemas: in the Neustadt Gymnasium, in the House of Music, in Arts Avenue and in the Festsaal of the Freiheitshalle for the opening and a special screening.

These premises, all in the city centre, will be specially prepared for the festival in order to provide visitors with an outstanding cinema experience and to preserve the character of the film festival: proximity to the audience, high-quality picture and sound quality and an atmosphere that promotes conversations and encounters.

Many committed people have put a lot of heart and soul and creativity into the search for suitable places and their transformation in order to promote culture to make it lively even outside traditional spaces. The visit of pop-up cinemas runs like a red thread through the Hofer Downtown, a real discovery trail. In this way, the Film Festival becomes a new lively cinema experience on site from 21 to 26 October 2025 and of course again until November 2nd with many films online.

As a technical partner, we were able to win the Munich-based company ZweiB. We would like to thank them for their spontaneous cooperation and looking forward to future cooperation. We would also like to thank for the extraordinary support of Arts Avenue, the Hofer Symphony Orchestra, the 1st Hof Carnival Society Narhalla e.V., at the Freiheitshalle Hof and the Central Cinema for providing the venues.

We are looking forward to an exciting festival time with impressive films, inspiring conversations and many meeting places at the new venues, in the well-known Central cinema, in civil society – the Festival centre with XR/VR programme and café, the Galeriehaus and via our HoF streaming channel.
