New film award at the Hof International Film Festival: PLANET REBELS AWARD

Internationale Hofer Filmtage Planet Rebels Award Mood

The 60th Hof International Film Festival is setting a new course for the future: this year marks the inaugural presentation of the PLANET REBELS AWARD.

Supported by the Oberfranken Stiftung, the award honours feature-length fiction and documentary films from the programme of the Hof International Film Festival that tell stories of new pathways towards our future through conviction, hope, and visionary perspectives.

Guided by the motto “be inspired to unf**ck the future”, the PLANET REBELS AWARD shines a spotlight on cinematic works that give expression to the social, political, and personal dimensions of climate, the environment, resources, and the future. The award seeks stories that not only reveal challenges and injustices but also open up new perspectives and make change imaginable.

The focus extends beyond a film’s subject matter alone. The jury will also consider how boldly and innovatively sustainability has been integrated into the production process. Resource-conscious production methods, creative approaches to storytelling and visual expression, as well as pioneering models of sustainable filmmaking, are explicitly recognised as part of the award.

“Our future needs imagination. The PLANET REBELS AWARD stands for a constructive form of rebellion that opens up new perspectives and enables sustainable transformation. Cinema alone cannot change the world — but it can certainly help make it a better place,” says Thorsten Schaumann, Artistic Director of the Hof International Film Festival.

The PLANET REBELS AWARD carries a prize of €5,000, generously provided by the Oberfranken Stiftung. The award will be presented by an independent jury as part of the 60th Hof International Film Festival. The prize money will be shared equally between the film’s production company and its director.
