“In cinemas we are used to seeing stories about first love. The freshness that goes with something happening for the first times makes us root for the young couple. But what is it like to know that this love will be the last one? My Sailor, My Love is a story about the ability to give and receive love. How is it that some of us find it while others feel the immense pain of longing but never receiving? My aim as a director is to make the film as epically beautiful as it is humanely accessible. The characters are brought to life by well-known and highly-skilled actors, so that when leaving the cinemas, the audience will be deeply moved by the lives on the screen, taking with them both encouragement and hope. Together with all the people working on the film, I am convinced that My Sailor, My Love (my English-language debut) will touch audiences across both language and generational barriers.”
