Since 2015, the Hof-based Hermann and Bertl Müller Foundation donates a prize endowed with 7,500 euros for the best German, Austrian or Swiss Documentary feature. The design of the award is created in cooperation with the European Academy for Sculpture in Wunsiedel and is based on a concept by Mohamed Naguib, an award-winning Egyptian sculptor and instructor at the University of Alexandria.
“It is a fascinating film, full of respect and a cautious approach that irretrievably connects the past with existing family traumas. It is always a courageous undertaking to venture into one's own family - so it is even more beautiful when a film enters the world that brings the repressed into the here and now. TROG is a movie that doesn't make it easy, is painful and lingers on for a long time.”
From the jury statement: “’How are you?’, the filmmaker asks the men she meets along the way in Burgenland. They talk about broken relationships, accumulated debts, unresolved grief, and pressure at work. Director Katrin Schlösser interviews the men with a refreshing directness. Without hesitation, she makes small pinpricks in the self-image of her counterpart, constantly scratching the surface. She succeeds in sketching a traditional masculinity that is already becoming permeable in a light-footed and humorous way.”
