The Hof International Film Festival will be screening online “at” the Central Kino: HALDERN POP – VILLAGE WITH FESTIVAL by Monika Pirch

HALDERN POP - VILLAGE WITH FESTIVAL

With two initiatives at once, the Hof International Film Festival is breaking new ground in these currently culturally poor times. The screening series HoF Rendezvous, which was successfully introduced in 2017, will be continued online for the first time on Saturday, 28 November 2020 at 7 pm in cooperation with the Central Kino Hof. Kick-off is the documentary film HALDERN POP – VILLAGE WITH FESTIVAL by Monika Pirch, which received an Honorable Mention from the Granit Award Jury at the last festival. The online series is extended by the biweekly HoF Talk Rendezvous. Both formats are interactive and offer viewers the opportunity to participate in the events via a chat function.

To go and point to alternative ways is part of the HoF culture. This applies not only to film itself but also to the model of the Home of Film. After the successful implementation of this year's festival as a hybrid event with films in the cinemas in Hof and online on demand, the festival goes one step further. In order to provide a platform for the filmmakers and to show cinematic diversity during a time when the cinemas are closed, the screenings of the HoF Rendezvous will take place "in” the Central Kino, including an introduction to discussions and a Q&A with the filmmakers online. You can buy a donation ticket with an individually selectable amount. Thanks to the support of the Central Kino and the support of the Rotary Club Hof, all proceeds of the screening will go to the respective rights holders. Depending on the situation, this can be the filmmakers or the distributors.

The series starts with Monika Pirch's documentary film HALDERN POP - VILLAGE WITH FESTIVAL. Haldern is located on the Lower Rhine, has 5000 inhabitants, 3 pubs, a train station and an internationally celebrated music festival. The film explores the question of how music makes the concept of community possible and gives impulses to the village, time and time again. The Granit – Hof Documentary Award Jury (Angela Christlieb, Markus Mörth, Britta Schöning) honored the film with a Special Mention:

"The filmmaker (Monika Pirch) impressively captures the commitment of the village community, which combines its conservataive tradition with international pop culture. The film touched us because it shows how apparent contradictions can be overcome and great dreams can be realized through decades of commitment".

    From the jury's statement

"We must do something for the cinemas. They are currently closed. This is why I'm very happy to continue our Rendezvous series online. With HALDERN POP by Monika Pirch we will show a great film, which fits so perfectly with the HoF feeling. The proceeds of the donation tickets go directly to the filmmaker. I am looking forward to a full virtual Central Kino and great conversations with the audience.”

    Thorsten Schaumann
Artistic director of the Hof International Film Festival

"I am pleased that we are able to continue our joint, traditional film series between the Central Kino and the Hof International Film Festival, even under these special circumstances. With the team of the Hof International Film Festival, we have great partners at our side and Thorsten Schaumann doesn’t shy from any opportunity to draw people's attention to cinema and film".

Since 2017 the Hof International Film Festival has been organizing the HoF Rendezvous with the motto “let’s do it again” at the Central Kino in Hof and at the Lodderbast cinema in Hanover. These are screenings that we present throughout the year within the framework of the Hof International Film Festival. The filmmakers present their films personally. In this manner, we hope to help the festival have a lasting effect and increase the anticipation for the next festival. At the same time, the filmmakers are promoted once again through our communication.

The HoF Talk Rendezvous is our new virtual, 45-minute talk format, which takes place in addition to the HoF Rendezvous. Every two weeks the artistic director of the Hof International Film Festival talks to guests about the festival. The central element here is interaction. A chat function allows the audience to actively participate in the conversation.
