The team of JACKPOT at the 54th International Hof Film Festival
2018 - Barbet Schroeder - director, producer, screenwriter und actor

JACKPOT (feature film, D, 2020) by director Emily Atef, who received the Hans Vogt Film Award 2020 in Hof for her cinematic work: A bag with over 600,000 euros in cash, just like that in a towed car: when Maren, who works at the car yard, finds the bag, she can’t resist the temptation. But this is the beginning of a cat-and-mouse game of life and death. Thrilling to the last minute. In the ARD Mediathek until 24 June 2021 and on Wednesday, 24 March 2021 at 8:15 pm on ARD.

LE VÉNÉRABLE W. (documentary, F, 2017), presented by director Barbet Schroeder, grand master of French and international cinema, at the festival in 2017 and in his retro alongside BARFLY and REVERSAL OF FORTUNE in Hof in 2018: the “Honorable W.”, Ashin Wirathu, is an influential Buddhist monk in Burma. In his documentary, Barbet Schroeder takes a look at the terrifying personality of the radical monk and sheds light on the extent to which he is one of the main perpetrators of the persecution of the Rohingya. A shocking portrait from Barbet Schroeder’s “Trilogy of Evil”. In the ARTE Mediathek until 31 March 2021 and on Wednesday, 24 March 2021 at 11:45 pm on ARTE.

Hof IFF 2015: Director Paul Riniker presents USFAHRT OERLIKE.
The team of ATLAS at the 52nd Hof International Film Festival

USFAHRT OERLIKE (feature film, CH, 2014) by Paul Riniker, who presented the film at the 2015 Hof International Film Festival. It is the only feature film to feature the two greats of the Swiss entertainment scene together: Hans is 80. He has experienced a lot, traveled the world, started a family. A few years ago, his beloved wife Martha died. And now he has to have his old dog put to sleep. A new phase of life begins and it is his true friend Willi who sticks by him ... until the end. Winner of many awards, USFAHRT OERLIKE gets under your skin every minute. Thursday, 25 March 2021 at 1:00 am on 3sat.

David Nawrath’s THE MOVER (feature film, D, 2018) and team were frenetically celebrated by the audience at HoF in 2018: 60-year-old Walter is a furniture packer for forced evictions. An old building is to be emptied out and sold at a high price. But the last tenant refuses to move out. Walter believes he recognizes in the young man his son, whom he abandoned decades ago and has never seen again since. With an outstanding cast including Rainer Bock, Albrecht Schuch (German Film Award “Best Actor” 2020), Thorsten Merten, Nina Gummich and many more, this is a gripping family drama in times of gentrification. In the ARTE Mediathek from 25-31 March 2021 and on Thursday, 25 March at 11:40 pm on ARTE.

Christoph Schlingensief at the retrospective "A short history of the German Film" in 2006

A reunion with Christoph SCHLINGENSIEF – A VOICE THAT SHOOK THE SILENCE (documentary, D, 2020, directed by Bettina Böhler) at the Lodderbast with Wiebke and Johannes Thomsen. The exceptional artist was at the festival for the first time in 1986 with TUNGUSKA - DIE KISTEN SIND DA. After that he was a guest in HoF again and again. Among others, MUTTERS MASKE or GERMAN CHAINSAW MASSACRE were disturbing and at the same time formative works that he presented here. Guests in the Lodderbast live film talk are Irene von Alberti (filmmaker and producer) and Frieder Schlaich (filmmaker and producer) from Filmgalerie 451, which also oversees Schlingensief’s cinematic legacy. An inspiring film evening in our partner cinema. Friday, 26 March 2021 at 7:00 pm at » www.lodderbast.de

HOF IFF 2018: Director Petra Lüschow presents GOOD GIRL GONE BAD.

In GOOD GIRL GONE BAD (feature film, D, 2018, world premiere HoF 2018), director Petra Lüschow takes us back to the peace movement of the 80s in her first feature film. 17-year-old Ursula Mayer lives in the province, which is increasingly influenced by the ideals of the ‘68 movement. When one day a new attractive teacher (Florian Stetter) comes to the small town, he turns not only Ursula’s life upside down. A funny throwback to the time when parkas and perms played a major role. In the ARTE Mediathek until 3 April 2021 and on Friday, 26 March at 1:15 am on ARTE.

The Hans Vogt Award 2018 goes to Veit Helmer.

THE BRA (feature film, D, 2018) is a modern fairy tale by Veit Helmer, who received the Hans Vogt Award at HoF 2018: Day in and day out, Nurlan steers his train through a densely populated suburb of Baku, where the tracks are extremely close to the houses. On his last day of work before retirement, a special parting gift gets tangled up in his locomotive: a beautiful blue lace bra. Just who might that little piece of fabric belong to? A film that makes you dream. In the ARTE Mediathek until 12 June 2021.
