Travel in comfort – that’s what we’ll be doing on Saturday, 9 January 2021 at 7:00 pm with Wolfgang Ettlich’s GERMANY JOURNEY at the online HoF Rendezvous screening in the virtual Central Kino. Wolle Ettlich is a director, screenwriter, and producer with an eventful past as a restaurant owner as well as a stage operator and a real HoF regular. After celebrating his world premiere with the documentary GERMANY JOURNEY in the cinema at the last Hof International Film Festival, he is now an online guest at the Home of Films.

The film is a road movie through East Germany and, at the same time, a journey through time. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, documentary filmmaker Wolfgang Ettlich made the journey for the first time and then several times again, with long time intervals in between and meeting the same people again. Driven by a constant curiosity, the filmmaker takes us with him to this reunion.

Just like in the cinema, we’ll start off with a preliminary discussion and then begin the film together via the ARD Mediathek. At the end of the film, there will be a joint discussion with the director, in which all viewers can actively participate via the chat:

Since 2017, the Hof International Film Festival has been organizing the HoF Rendezvous under the motto "let’s do it again" at the Central Kino in Hof and the Lodderbast in Hanover. These are screenings organized throughout the year as part of the Hof International Film Festival. The filmmakers also present their films in person. By doing this, we allow the festival to have further impact and increase the anticipation for the next festival edition. And at the same time, the filmmakers are promoted once again through our communication channels.

During the time when the cinemas are closed, the HoF Rendezvous will take place in the virtual Central Kino online with the support of the Rotary Club Hof. Via a chat function, viewers can participate directly in the conversations. The screenings are free, but viewers can choose to donate an amount of their own choice to the rights owners, like for example the filmmaker or the film’s distributor.
