    1986
The Hof Gold Prize 2019 goes to Lothar Herzog for his film 1986.
Theatrical release: Director Lothar Herzog and Thorsten Schaumann at the Casablanca in Nuremberg

Our Hofer Gold Prize winner (2019) Lothar Herzog starts with his film 1986 on Thursday, 9 September 2021 in cinemas. Let's embark on a journey through time: Elena is a student in Minsk, Belarus. She has a passionate but increasingly difficult relationship with her boyfriend Victor. When her father is arrested, she has to continue his illegal business. In order to make deals for him, she repeatedly has to drive into the ‚forbidden zone‘ of Chernobyl. She finds herself attracted by the zone’s deceptive beauty – but her life seems more and more contaminated by a destructive force…

"Lothar Herzog has made a visually powerful first feature with that great artistic idiosyncrasy that makes auteur cinema so appealing." (from the Jury Statement by Bernhard Sinkel). At the First Step Awards, the producer of 1986, Romana Janik, received the NO FEAR Award.

And on Sunday, 12 September 2021, there will be an audience discussion with director Lothar Herzog and the artistic director of the Hof International Film Festival Thorsten Schaumann at the Casablanca in Nuremberg. » Tickets
