"Because of my family history, I have spent a lot of time in hospitals ever since the age of 8. At first, doctors seemed to be amazing magicians with absolute knowledge about my body and my family's bodies to me. However, the older I got and the more I encountered wrong diagnoses and medical misdirection, the more I understood that doctors are only human and that healthy skepticism is in order. I realized that first and foremost, it was me who had to take responsibility for my body and learn to listen to it. [...] As an artist and filmmaker, I want to channel my experiences and those of the protagonists and bring them to the screen. In HEIL DICH DOCH SELBST (HEAL YOURSELF) I tried to find forms of visual expression enabling the audience to think themselves into the lives of people with chronic illnesses - the state of the illness as well as the process of recovery. [...]. No matter how your own recovery or treatment goes, in the end, it’s always the perspective you take on your own life and fate that counts."
