The diversity of film stories, genres and themes at the 56th Hof International Film Festival have been reflected in the many awards given. The following awards were presented at the 56th Hof International Film Festival:
The jury of film critics, Peter Beddies (MDR/ARD), Radovan Holub (Prague), Geri Krebs (Zurich) has awarded the film critics’ accolade to
"A fine German almost-and-then-not-after-all documentary that - and this happens very rarely - will probably also be understood well abroad.”
and to the film
"A powerful, oppressive film, which moves across several genres with somnambulistic assurance..."
The jury, consisting of set designer Birgit Kniep-Gentis (VSK), costume designers Birgitt Kilian, Janina Brinkmann and Tanja Hausner, editor Florentine Bruck, and set design student at the ifs, Josephine Brauer, has awarded the prize of 2,500 euros each to
for their work on MERMAIDS DON'T CRY by Franziska Pflaum.
"The brilliant set and costume design convey the optimism and positive strength of the characters. There is liveliness, lightness and love in everything."
The jury, Angeliki Antoniou, Günter Schwaiger and Jens Meurer, have awarded the prize endowed with 7,500 Euros to the documentary film
"A soulful portrait of a stirring artist whose life seems identical to his moving photography. The film is powerful, honest and unpretentious, in an unpretentious way. Simple! Swabian! Magnificent!"
Two special recommendations were also awarded to
"A politically relevant film about an extraordinary activist who exposes the corrupt banking system, thereby demanding original methods of resistance."
".. a passionate film about art. Self-made, homemade, loving, especially when nothing else succeeds, independent film-making as this has always belonged to Hof."
