“I asked myself what the true reasons for this project were. It is my story. My mother left Guatemala because she was being chased by the authorities. I grew up with my grandmother. I often traveled back and forth between Guatemala and Mexico until I finally decided to live with her. When we met for the first time, I was nine years old and we were complete strangers. Our relationship developed in a strange way. We are actually more like friends. You have to question the commitment in order to better understand the mechanics of this story. I took a long detour through Brussels and went through four different versions of the script before returning to the basis of my story.”
