“I’ve always been a big football fan, and this project came about in
2015-2016, right after my short film. Back then, French clubs started
getting involved in trading. They began buying very young players, for
whom they had to pay outrageous bonuses even at the time the contracts
were signed. Their age and the sums involved really caught my attention.
I researched the background and focused on young players signing their
first contract. When they come to the training academies, they are
drilled to have only one dream and are told they are doomed to fail if
they get too distracted. While I understand the idea from a sporting
perspective, it is also destructive: most of them will never become
professionals. And what happens if it doesn’t work out? I felt like I had really stumbled upon an important topic here.”
