In many soccer stadiums, fans sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" before the game, a song that seems to have become synonymous with fan culture. This documentary tells the amazing story of this piece. It’s a long, fascinating, and wonderful tale. Actor and self-confessed soccer fan Joachim Król guides us through the film and traces the song’s history.

“‘Walk Alone,’ as the ‘Scousers,’ the real Liverpudlians, would say, is an absolute stroke of luck in my career. Actually not a job for an actor, more a job for someone with curiosity, a joy of communication, love of travel and soccer, as well as theater skills. I happened to be sitting in the car with documentary producer André Schäfer from Cologne when he took a phone call over the speakerphone and told the caller his idea for a film about the world anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and its original story. My succinct comment when he finished the conversation was: ‘Whenever this is supposed to happen, I have to be there!’ and that’s exactly what happened. Spread over a good year, we tried to trace the history of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ in the most diverse places with the most interesting conversation partners, from Cologne, Budapest, Vienna, New York, and Los Angeles for the theater and musical part to Liverpool, Herne, and Dortmund for the soccer part. Weeks full of inspiring conversations about theater, music, and soccer.
A gift for which I am still grateful.
