For many, crossing the Mediterranean is their last hope of escaping war, persecution, and hunger. As more and more women are forced to take this deadly route, a midwife is now a permanent member of the crew of a sea rescue ship. While midwife Anne-Katrin takes part in her first mission, survivors recount the horrors of their journey. Their worlds briefly collide before the rescued women step into another uncertain future.

“A few years ago, I took part in a sea rescue for the first time. We rescued 32 people, including five women and ten children, the youngest only three months old. A few days later, a pregnant woman confessed that she had not felt her baby move since the rescue. We did not have a midwife on board. That moment stayed with me and led to this film.
As I listened to the women, their words seemed like poetry: heartbreaking and yet full of strength. ‘I started writing down my story to share it with the world,’ said one woman, even before I turned on the camera. These voices must be heard.”
